Shiny Objects

Why yes, I am easily distracted by shiny things and stress.

Why yes, I am easily distracted by shiny things and stress.

Sometimes we have stress, and sometimes we create our own stress, which is exactly what I did this past week. Once I figured that out and figured out how to “de-stress,” I felt so much better. And now I can enjoy my weekend. We’re having dinner with friends I met on my trip to Vietnam since they’re in town this weekend. Guess where we’re going? To Le Colonial, a Vietnamese restaurant, of course. What are you up to this weekend?

Oooh look at these shiny objects . . .

I’ve been reading . . . The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr. Yep, another Anthony Doerr book. It’s part of my reading challenge to read three different books by the same author. This is the last one.

Finished A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, which was such a delight to read. I didn’t read it as a kid, and I’m glad I read it now. Can’t wait to see the movie version.

I also had finished Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado and said I would talk about it another time. I did. You can read my review of it here.

I’ve been watching . . . The Voice and the series finale of The Mindy Project. So sad The Mindy Project is over. If you saw the finale, what did you think? I think I wanted more from it but I am glad that Mindy and Danny ended up together—which I figured would happen.

I’ve been listening to . . . women in music. Continuing through the list and have listened to . . .

Breeders, Last Splash: Oh this was good—90s women rock music. Purely good guitar and rocking out. Especially love their hits “Cannonball” and “Divine Hammer.”

Robyn, Body Talk: This one was hard to listen to without getting so annoyed. I don’t really get why Robyn is on the list. I’m trying to be open but really, this over Cher?

Iris DeMent, My Life: Normally I love the singer-songwriter sort-of folk type of music but Iris DeMent is not your typical singer-songwriter. The first time I listened to this album, I didn’t love it. But as I kept listening to it, I liked it more and more. You have to pay attention to the lyrics. Love the song “No Time to Cry.”

Have a wonderful weekend!
