“May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be confident knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.”
— St. Teresa of Ávila
In 2004, I went on a sacred travel trip to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. I’m by no means a religious person, and I was raised as a holidays-only Muslim, but I do consider myself a spiritual person. I was drawn to this trip mainly because I wanted to visit these three countries. Little did I know what I would discover.
On this particular trip, one of the places we went to was the town of Ávila in Spain, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. And it was here that I first learned about St. Teresa. I thought she was pretty cool since she was considered the “patron saint of writers and education” and a bit of a rebel. As a writer and a lover of learning, I was inspired by St. Teresa and her words. In fact, to this day, I have a small statue of her on my writing desk, along with a statue of Ganesh, a Hindu god who is known as the remover of obstacles. Both inspire me as I write.
This Monday morning as I was doing my morning reading, I found the above quote/prayer that I had saved, and I’m so glad I found it. Not only do I find this prayer soothing but it also reminded me of the lovely trip I took those years ago.
Happy Monday. Make it a great week!
