“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke
Years ago I quit my job to travel and freelance, when I got home from my travels, I was a bit at a loss and wasn’t sure what I was going to do next. A friend connected me with a successful writer, traveler, and businesswoman. When I told her I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do, she shared the above quote with me. It instantly set my heart and soul at peace.
A few weeks ago, I was celebrating a friend’s birthday and, at this point in her life, she is thinking about what’s ahead for her and what she wants to do. She didn’t have the answers yet. I smiled remembering that sometimes we don’t need to know the answers yet. Sometimes it’s ok to “live the questions now.”
Happy Monday! Make it a great week.
