“One day she finally grasped that unexpected things were always going to happen in life. And with that, she realized the only control she had was how she chose to handle them. So, she made the decision to survive using courage, humor, and grace. She was the Queen of her own life and the choice was hers.”

Sometimes I start a lot of different plates spinning. Sometimes I expect magical elves to make things happen for me. And sometimes I make the best-laid plans.
But plates crash, the magical elves never show up, and best-laid plans break down. When the unexpected happens, it would be easy for me to give up, blame others, or wallow in my self-pity. The unexpected will always happen. And it did last week.
A trip I planned to take fell through only two weeks before going. At first I thought, oh well, I guess I’m not going anywhere. [Cue the Eeyore voice.] I decided that how I handled this change was my choice. I may not be able to control others or events but I can control my actions and reactions. I used my superpower, and then chose to make my trip happen. Now I have an even better trip in place, and it’s one that feels right for me. (And it costs less than what I had budgeted for so I’m saving some money.)
When I take charge of my life and make my own choices, things usually work out for the better. And this is a lesson I’m happy to be reminded of from time to time.
Make it a great week!
