So I’ve been thinking . . . about this kid. I kinda like her.
I’ve never been one for all that inner child stuff. I mean, it always sounded a little woo-woo to me. I still cringe when I hear someone talk about “embracing your inner child.” But I can’t deny that things I learned as a kid still pop up today. Kind of like the Helvetica default font on your computer. It’s the default whenever you open up a new Word document. But then you change it when you realize you want a different font.
Yes, I still pout like I did as a kid. Yes, I have that knee-jerk reaction of “Who me? What did I do?” Those are some of my defaults. And with all those quirky, not-so-lovely parts of our little kid comes the good stuff too. That kid in the photo. She has sass. She has style. She is fearless. She loves to climb trees, run, play; she knows how to have fun and she creates new games; she takes risks; she has adventures and a vivid imagination; she loves animals and nature; she loves her quiet time to read and write. And above all, she never gives up hope.
So, yeah, I kind of like this kid. I think there’s a few things I can learn from her.
And another thing (or two or five or seven) . . .
- I got Funky Baby. And I’m 11 years old.
- Speaking of fonts . . .
- Best way to spend two minutes.
- Best way to spend 60 seconds.
- Jaw-dropping drawings
- I don’t watch the show but this was incredible.
- Because this made me laugh.
I’ve been reading . . . The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George. A light and easy read. I was drawn to the idea of the bookshop as a literary apothecary, using specific books as a “prescription” for emotional ailments. Hopefully this book will be just what I need to get over my reading slump.
I’ve been watching . . . Game of Thrones. I’m still in mourning so I’m kind of glad that episode 6 didn’t leave me a quivering mess. Besides Benjen’s back—yay! I knew that end of the string would not be loose forever.
Saw the movie The Nice Guys. It was actually funnier than I thought it would be. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling work well together, believe it or not. Love the nod to the old Laurel and Hardy movies.
I’ve been listening to . . . Little Big Town. Great song to start your day–just be sure to turn up the volume when you listen to it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
